Singapore Visa Rejection: Common Reasons & How to Reapply
Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) does not always tell applicants why a visa was refused, and the visa fee is not refunded. If your application was rejected, first check your file for mistakes (mismatched details, missing documents, photo issues, weak proof of funds or purpose). Then either appeal to ICA or apply again with a corrected application. Nobody can guarantee approval, so fix the real problem before you reapply. For a file review, contact Travel On Call.
Singapore Visa Rejection at a Glance
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Who decides? | ICA, Singapore. No agent or consultant can influence or guarantee the decision. |
| Will ICA give the reason? | Not always. ICA states that reasons for a rejection are generally not disclosed. |
| Is the fee refunded? | No. The visa fee is non-refundable even if the visa is refused. |
| Can I appeal? | Yes. ICA allows an appeal. Check the official ICA answer linked below for the current process and time limit. |
| Can I reapply? | Yes, but a new application with the same problems is likely to meet the same result. |
| Best first step | Review the whole file line by line, then decide: appeal or fresh application. |
What ICA Says About Visa Rejections
ICA publishes short answers on its official help portal about refused visas. Two points matter most for Indian applicants:
- Reasons for rejection are not always shared with the applicant.
- An applicant can appeal a rejection through the channel ICA specifies.
Read the official answers directly: ICA: Why is my visa application rejected? and ICA: How do I appeal against my visa rejection?
Because ICA often does not give reasons, no outside website can tell you with certainty why your visa was refused. What we can do is list the weak points that commonly cause delays or refusals, and help you check your file against them.
Common Singapore Visa Rejection Reasons (and How to Fix Each)
These are common weak points in visit-visa files. They are not an ICA-confirmed list for your case.
| Possible weak point | Why it causes trouble | How to fix it before reapplying |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete form or missing documents | Officers cannot assess a file with gaps. | Use the document list on our Singapore visa requirements for Indians page and tick every item. |
| Details that do not match across documents | Different spellings, dates or addresses between the form, passport and supporting papers raise doubts. | Compare name, date of birth, passport number and dates on every page. |
| Passport with short validity | Passport validity is a basic requirement. | Renew your passport first if validity is short. See our passport enquiry service. |
| Photo not meeting ICA rules | A non-compliant photo can hold up or sink an application. | Retake the photo to the specification given in the current ICA instructions. |
| Purpose of visit unclear or not matching a visit visa | The trip reason must fit the visa type applied for. | Show a clear itinerary and purpose. For business, check whether a Letter of Introduction from the Singapore company is needed. |
| Weak proof of funds or employment | Officers look for signs you can fund the trip and will return home. | Provide recent, genuine bank statements, employment proof and, where relevant, leave approval. |
| Local contact issues | Some applications need a Singapore citizen or PR (aged 21+) as local contact, and the details must be correct. | Confirm the contact’s details and that they can apply for you as required. |
| Earlier immigration problems | Past overstays or violations can affect any later application. | Be honest. Do not hide history. Speak to us before reapplying. |
| Applying through an unauthorised source | Unverified agents may submit wrong or incomplete files. | Use an ICA-authorised route and ask for a clear fee breakup before paying. |
| Applying too late or too early | ICA advises applying within a set window before arrival. | Check the timing on our Singapore visa fees and processing time page. |

How to Find What Went Wrong With Your Application
- Collect everything you submitted. Form, passport copy, photo, bank statements, employment papers, itinerary and any contact details.
- Read the rejection communication again. Note any wording, reference number or instruction in it.
- Check consistency. Names, dates and numbers must match everywhere.
- Check proof of purpose and funds. Ask: would a stranger understand why you are going and how you will pay?
- Check your history. Any earlier refusal, overstay or immigration issue should be known and handled honestly.
- Get a second pair of eyes. A visa consultant can review the file before you spend another fee.
Appeal or Reapply: Which Is Better?
| Situation | Better option |
|---|---|
| You believe ICA missed a document you did submit, or there was a factual error on ICA’s side | Appeal through the official ICA channel, within the time ICA states. |
| Your file had a clear gap (missing paper, mismatch, weak proof) | Fix it and submit a fresh application. |
| Your circumstances changed (new job proof, stronger finances, passport renewed) | Fresh application with the new evidence. |
| You have earlier immigration issues | Speak to us before doing either. |
ICA does not publish a fixed waiting period before you can apply again that we could verify. Do not rely on rumours. If you want to know whether to wait, contact Travel On Call and we will check the latest position with you.
Checklist Before You Reapply
- Passport has enough validity and clean, readable pages.
- Photo meets the current ICA specification.
- Every name, date and number matches across all documents.
- Clear purpose of visit with a realistic itinerary.
- Recent bank statements and employment or business proof.
- Local contact or Letter of Introduction in place, if your case needs it.
- Honest answers on any past refusal or travel issue.
- Fee breakup confirmed in writing before payment.
Common Mistakes After a Rejection
- Reapplying the same day with the same file. Nothing has changed, so the result may not either.
- Booking non-refundable flights and hotels first. Wait for the visa. Our flight booking and travel insurance teams can help once approved.
- Hiding the earlier refusal. Declare it where asked.
- Submitting fake or edited documents. This can cause serious, lasting problems. Never do it.
- Trusting anyone who promises guaranteed approval. No one can guarantee it.
